Introduction

Now we are going to start a new project, related with world affairs. We have decided to talk about women's  rights.

Women's rights are the rights claimed for women and girls of many societies worldwide. In some places these rights are institutionalized or supported by law. But in others, they are ignored or suppressed.

But we will focus on Afghanistan, where the situation is really different and critical.

Historical background

Women's rights in Afghanistan have suffered changes in the last three decades. Through different rulers women have struggled to gain freedoms and reform a society that is primarily male dominant. Even today, violence against women in Afghanistan is high although the situation is improving slowly as the country progresses with the help of the international community.

Nowadays

In this video of the CNN, we can see clearly the situation of the women in Afghanistan nowadays. Most scenes are located in hospitals where some women talk about their own experiences. Other pictures are taken in the street and they reflect the hard life that women suffer.

This is a recent news that explains an attack to a school of women in Afghanistan. Fortunately there wasn't any deads or injured. Part of the building was demolished, but there wero no big damages. Every day are many attacks of this kind against women.

The Problem

In its long history Afghanistan has seen many events, but the most important one was when it officially became its own country in 1747. In 1994 a movement started;this reinforced the start of the Taliban in 1996. By 1998 The Taliban ruled over 90% of Afghanistan. The Taliban is a group of people that practice the strictest form of Sharia law. It is known for its mistreatment of women, which includes women not being able to work, or leave the house with a male escort, and having to wear a burqa. In 2001 it was abolished, but many people continued to enforce the rules in their homes.

Conclusion

We decided to take this subject because we think that is an extreme situation and it is known all over the world. We were really interested, but we didn't know much about this topic. Now we realize how the problem started and its development over the years; for example, we thought that the conflict began around 100 years ago. But now we know that truly the problem happened 20-30 years ago. After finishing the work we have noticed that the everyday life is too hard and complicated for living. Having said that, we declare ourselves in favour of changing the difficult situation.
